Special Feature 18+ Warning
Hello everyone! I have a special feature of an up and coming handbook that features sex and love.
You can follow there Twitter here: https://twitter.com/PlayasHandbook
Post that caught my attention for the product itself!
FIRST KISS:
We are creating an RPG supplement with:
victory conditions for love & romance
mechanics for sex & seduction
rules for using real world touch and nudity
wacky erotic miscellany
sex worker and succubi tables
Here is an image they've created inspired by this entry in the romance mechanics section.
"Forbidden Love
Wyrmwood the Infernal is foraging in the Parsnip Moors when she is discovered by Trystan, the Sylvan hunter. The expected rain of arrows doesn’t come: Trystan is not on patrol. He is running away from his cruel taskmaster, Sgt. Sweetfeather. Smitten, the two run away together—hounded by families who would never accept the other."
I personally really like this image and love that tattoos which I know is a small detail but I really like the way they look.
I took the liberty to ask the lovely creator some questions and they were kind enough to answer them.Q1. What made you decide to create this hand book?
A:
A number of months ago I began publishing my thoughts about how to run Tomb of Annihilation in blog form (AnnotatedToA.weebly.com) and built a Twitter account in order to let people know about it (I also posted about it to Reddit forums and on relevant Facebook groups). Doing this, I found myself connecting with a huge variety of people in the hobby with whom I’d never interacted. I’d only ever really played the game with my immediate friends and family.
I discovered that there was a lot of interest in romantic play and expressing sexuality through the game, yet there are no mechanics for doing any of this. People had to role-play out these interests as best they could free-form.
One night, I had an epiphany—partly inspired by the Kids on Bikes mechanics, but also on my understanding of 3-Act-Structure for romances. That seed snowballed into the ideas that make the backbone of this project: an array of optional rules that allow tables to explore romantic and sexual experiences in D&D.
Q2. What is your favorite part of the project? It could include content, work you’ve done with other etc.
A:
So far, my favorite part has been hammering out the game mechanics. I enjoy powerful game design—I enjoy the application of psychology and play theory to solve problems. It’s a rewardingly frustrating sort of process. So far, my romance rules have felt like the real profound achievement—I’m hoping it will change game play in really excellent ways for a lot of tables. The sexual content I’ve designed was fun too, but less profound. Most of the project is still only a spray of notes on a spread-sheet. There is still quite a lot to be worked out and then explained in writing.
Q3. Consent is an important factor when it comes to any romantic relationship, do you talk about consent in the handbook?
A:
I’m pretty sure our book discusses consent and safety tools more comprehensively than any other work on the market, at least that I’ve looked at. We have about 12 pages of discussion on play styles, safety, and consent at the beginning of the text. Even the most vanilla of experiences using our rules runs a risk of being interpersonally destructive if people don’t want it in their games. Safety tools are designed to be used regularly and anonymously to secure a very safe, fun for everyone, experience.
Q4. Do you think certain aspects of the handbook will appeal to DMs over players, and vice versa?
A:
Most of the book is player-centered. I am a DM myself and really dislike having players dump a bunch of extra rules for me to manage in an already complicated game. Most of the mechanics in this book are meant to be managed by the players themselves, sort of the way leveling and XP work. I do hope that DMs take inspiration from this text when it comes to adventure prep. If everyone engages, it will be more fruitful.
Q5. Do you have a release date planned?
A:
A:
We don’t have any hard release date planned yet. I suspect it will take a good year to finish roughing the piece out, get it edited and play tested, and then ready for print. We’ll see. Right now, it’s a passion project, so I ‘m not stressed about that part yet.
Q6. Who’s the team that’s been working on this project?
A:
A:
Primarily the team is me and my wife. However, I have a handful of proofreaders and copywriters who have been helping also. So far, I have a trusted doctorate in social work who has been doing our first pass of sensitivity reading on the project, but I am looking to hire others. In particular, I am looking for sensitivity readers with expertise in topics affecting race and ethnicity, LGBTQIA+ people, sex workers, and various kink cultures. That’s a lot, I know, but I want this to be as inclusive as possible. And more importantly, I want this to be as useful for as many people as possible. I have also been looking around for concept artists, cartoonists, and illustrators to hire for the cover art and internals. I’d like the aesthetic to combine classic D&D illustrations, old-school 2d cartoons like those found in AD&D books, and newer digital cartoon styles popular in the community.
Q7. What’s your biggest goal with this handbook?
A:
Right now, it’s getting it made. If we can get it to press and have this serve as an interesting novelty on peoples’ shelves, great. That would be really neat. I think, though, that it has the potential—especially the romantic mechanics and the LARP-meets-tabletop sex rules—to be a very popular shift in the gaming tradition.
Q8. Are there any added races to your handbook or do you add to races already implemented?
A:
As of now, there are no plans for added races. We have put together a set of racial sexual features for each of the core races in the PHB. I had planned on leaving those at that, but after discussions online, it seems like we’ll need to tackle the supplemental races in other popular various modules and supplements, as well. Most of the sex supplements I’ve seen emphasize new playable races, sexual spells, and sexual feats. We’re less interested in that and more interested in allowing romantic and sexual game-play with your existing characters and campaigns. But who knows? The project is young!
Q9: Anything else you think the readers should know?
A:
Q9: Anything else you think the readers should know?
A:
The supplement will be organized into five sections. The first section is the most accessible and covers how to fold 3-act romantic plot structure into a campaign and sexual miscellany that any table might want to use (sex worker tables, wedding rules, sexual equipment, etc). The second covers how to run explicit sexual encounters in-game. The third covers how to run sexual encounters between PCs. The fourth is a set of mini-games and one-shots that have real world kissing, touching, and nudity (think: dirty party games like Spin-the-Bottle and Strip Poker). And the fifth is our guidelines for how to live-action role-play actual sexual encounters that blend real-world and in-world sexual and game experiences.
